What makes it iconic

  • Vertical light towers shaped like upright toothbrushes — a design intended to evoke the smokestacks of Cleveland industry.
  • The 'Mini Monster' — a 19-foot left field wall (a callback to Fenway's Green Monster).
  • Originally Jacobs Field (1994–2007), nicknamed 'The Jake'; renamed Progressive Field in 2008.
  • Replaced Cleveland Municipal Stadium ('Mistake by the Lake'), the cavernous lakefront stadium that often drew sparse crowds.

Notable moments

  • Game 7 of the 2016 World Series — the Cubs' rain delay, Rajai Davis's eighth-inning tying homer, and Cleveland falling in the 10th.
  • The 1995 American League pennant — Cleveland's first since 1954, ending a 41-year drought.
  • 455 consecutive sellouts from 1995–2001, an MLB record at the time.
  • Manny Ramirez, Albert Belle, Jim Thome, Kenny Lofton — the mid-90s 'Tribe' offense was historically great.

  2. 1995

    AL pennant

Cleveland won the AL pennant for the first time in 41 years. They lost the World Series to the Atlanta Braves in six games.

    Guardians era begins

The franchise dropped the 'Indians' name after a long activism campaign, becoming the Cleveland Guardians.
