What makes it iconic

  • Retractable roof — closed for most regular-season day games due to Phoenix heat. Was the first MLB park with both a retractable roof and natural grass.
  • Swimming pool and hot tub in right-center field, available for group rental — the only one of its kind in MLB.
  • Originally Bank One Ballpark ('the BOB'); renamed Chase Field in 2005 after the bank merger.
  • Replaced a dirt track between the pitcher's mound and home plate (a throwback feature) with grass in 2019.

Notable moments

  • Luis Gonzalez's bloop single off Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the ninth of Game 7 of the 2001 World Series — the youngest expansion team to win a championship.
  • Randy Johnson's perfect game at Atlanta in 2004 — and his strikeouts here at 47 years old in 2010.
  • Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson sharing the 2001 World Series MVP after combining for the franchise's only title.
  • The 2023 NL pennant — Arizona's first since 2001.

Timeline

  2. 2001

World Series title in year four

Behind Schilling and Johnson, Arizona beat the Yankees in seven games — Luis Gonzalez's blooper off Rivera the indelible image. The Diamondbacks became the fastest expansion team to win a title.

  3. 2005

    Renamed Chase Field

Bank One was acquired by JPMorgan Chase, and the park was rebranded.

  4. 2017

First playoff series win in 10 years

Arizona won the NL Wild Card game over Colorado — their first October victory since 2007.

  5. 2023

    Surprise pennant

An 84-win Diamondbacks team made a deep playoff run, sweeping the Dodgers in the NLDS and winning the NLCS over Philadelphia. Texas swept them in the World Series.
