What makes it iconic

  • Direct view of the Gateway Arch from the upper concourse — the dominant skyline element from the park.
  • The third 'Busch Stadium' in St. Louis history: Sportsman's Park / Busch Stadium I (1953-1966), Busch Memorial Stadium / Busch Stadium II (1966-2005), and the current park.
  • Statues of Cardinals legends ring the exterior: Stan Musial, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Ozzie Smith, Red Schoendienst, and others.
  • Adjacent to Ballpark Village — a mixed-use entertainment district built on the footprint of old Busch Stadium II.

Notable moments

  • The 2006 World Series title — clinched at Busch in its inaugural year, beating Detroit in five games.
  • The 2011 World Series Game 6 — David Freese's 11th-inning, walk-off home run after twice keeping the Cardinals alive.
  • Albert Pujols' Cardinals-era walk-offs and the eventual return-and-retirement in 2022.
  • Yadier Molina's 19-year career, all in St. Louis — culminating in his retirement in 2022.

Timeline

  1. 2006

    Busch Stadium III opens

The Cardinals moved into their new park mid-construction — Ballpark Village wasn't done — and proceeded to win the World Series in its inaugural year.

  2. 2011

    Title via Game 6 magic

David Freese's tying triple in the ninth and walk-off homer in the 11th of Game 6 became one of the great World Series moments. The Cardinals won Game 7 to clinch.

  3. 2013

    World Series appearance

Behind a deep rotation and a young Michael Wacha, the Cardinals reached the World Series and lost in six to Boston.

  4. 2022

    Pujols' farewell

Albert Pujols returned to St. Louis for one final season, hit his 700th career home run in Los Angeles, and retired alongside Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright.
